Automobiles in Germany's City Found Smeared with Swastikas in Blood, Police Confirm

Incident location Affected vehicle Local Police
Authorities reported they were contacted by a resident who discovered a car in Hanau marked with red-colored fluid

Approximately fifty vehicles have been smeared with what seems to be human blood in the Germany's municipality of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, police confirm authorities.

Cars, exterior walls and mailboxes were marked, occasionally with Nazi symbols, they announced in a statement.

Officers report they were notified during the night on Wednesday evening, when a man discovered that a car in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been covered with a red-colored fluid.

The substance had been placed in the pattern of a swastika, they reported.

Officers then located multiple other vandalized automobiles and building exteriors in the surrounding area.

Swastikas are illegal in Germany under regulations prohibiting the public display of symbols from the Nazi era.

Officials report initial examinations indicate the liquid was likely human bodily fluid.

"There is still no indication as to its source; investigators are presently not aware of any physical harm in connection with the event," they commented.

Municipal representatives stated they were attempting "to solve the mystery" and have asked to the community for details.

A senior political figure stated the vandalism rendered him without words and required to be resolved quickly.

"This event hits the very heart of Hanau and reawakens the trauma of the extremist violent incident half a decade ago," he posted on online, recalling the murder of nine victims by a gunman aiming at residents of migrant background in five years prior.
